Jesus The King Golf Tournament

In November 2016, the parishioners of Jesus the King Church were faced with the loss of the community home, our church on Lyndhurst Drive. A structure fire began inside the church and destroyed much of the building, including the altar, only a few weeks before Christmas. Unfortunately, the remaining parts of the church were covered in black soot and soaked wet from the activation of the sprinkler system. Since then, our church on Lyndhurst Drive has been sitting vacant and unusable.

The future of the Jesus the King parish was left in question at the end of 2016.

However, it is not all sad news. After the fire, and through the generosity of people in the broader community, our parish began using the Cathedral of the Transfiguration – a beautiful, but temporary, home for our parish. We have come to view the Cathedral as a place to gather, and inspiration for the future of our community and the church on Lyndhurst Drive.

Over the last three years, the Parish Council and the Building Committee weighed the options before them and have decided to demolish the existing structure on Lyndhurst Drive. The goal is to build a new church with space for community gatherings, and a structure that allows space for our community to grow, just as it has over the last three years. With construction drawings and a building permit application underway, the long and arduous task of raising capital is ahead of us.

Our objective is to raise approximately 5$ million and it is only through the generosity of people like you, along with our parishioners and friends, that we will achieve our goal. A large capital campaign initiative such as this one cannot be successful without a united effort. Since the winter of 2016, proceeds from community and church events such as the annual summer festivals and the Christmas parties, have been directed towards the Church Building Fund. Last year, through the generosity of friends and family in the

community and beyond, we were able to raise over 50,000$ for our Church Building Fund through the First Annual Jesus the King Golf Tournament – the single largest fundraise in our community’s history.

Despite the progress, our work is not done! This year, our goal is to raise 75,000$ for our Church Building Fund – 1.5 times last year’s goal! We have a long way to go and hope that you will join us in coming together as community once more to spend a day outdoors with friends and family, and help grow our Church Building Fund.

This year’s tournament will be held on August 31st, 2021. We look forward to welcoming you and your guests to the beautiful greens at Glen Eagle Golf Club. Golf and sponsorship packages are available for purchase via the registration form at the link below. We would be glad to answer any questions you may have.

St Francis of Assisi said: ‘For it is in giving that we receive’. May God bless you and your families and thank you for your continued generosity and support for Jesus the King Church.

On behalf of the Golf Tournament Committee, thank you!
Your servant in Christ, Msgr. Makarios Wehbi, B.S.O, JCL
General Vicar of the Eparchy of Saint Saviour
Administrator of Jesus the King Parish
